  What Are Lessons All About?

What to expect
  What to Expect

Let's face it, learning to sing in front of someone can be intimidating. I create a safe space for you to feel comfortable to succeed AND fail. Why do I say fail? Because without failure there is a limit to growth. Learning anything is about trying various approaches and seeing what works and what doesn't so failure is a perfectly natural part of growing and succeeding. I will help teach you how to learn from those failures and turn them into successes. We will cover the fundamentals of singing together as you learn about breathing, how to vocalize and warm up your voice, how to healthfully expand your vocal range,  how to improve vocal production and tome, how to interpret a song and deliver an emotional performance, how to perform a song and make it relevant to your audience, how to feel comfortable singing in front of others and how to choose songs to best show off your voice.

Breathing
Breathing

Learning to properly breathe and control your breath is the foundation upon which a good singing technique is built. It is one of the basic fundamentals of singing. It is also one of the hardest things to do and it takes the longest to fully develop! We will work on breathing exercises to help build your capacity and your control. Patience is key. The skill is like working on toning your body at the gym. It's a lot of work and you will sweat but it will be worth it!

Song Interpretation
  Song Interpretation

Singing is a form of communication. Through singing we communicate a thought, a feeling or an idea musically so that it resonates emotionally. That's why the lyrics of a song are so important! Interpreting a song is a detailed process. It's first and foremost about understanding the text. What does its say? What does it mean? What is its underlying message? How was that message interpreted by the composer? The rhythmic structure of a song provides a lot of clues as to what words are more meaningful than others. What is the emotional high-point of the song? Is the key in Major or Minor? Does the song change key? These are all things a singer must consider when learning a song and how to convey its meaning.
